Van der Mark wins at Misano!

11-06-2012

The Dutchman had a brilliant start and was already second after the first corners. Thanks to impressively fast laps, the EAB Ten Kate Junior Team rider came closer and closer to leader Ricardo Russo (Yamaha) and with almost one lap to go he passed the Italian in style. During the last lap, Van der Mark remained cool under the intense pressure of the Italian rider and won the race with 0.095 second ahead of Russo.

Chesaux had no luck at all. Like at Assen his race was over after a couple of corners due to a collision with another rider. Chesaux tried to continue but unfortunately there was too much damage to the Honda CBR600RR.  It was a big disappointment for the Swiss rider after his great performance during the practices.

Michael van der Mark (STK600 race – 1st + 0.095 second): “I’m so happy after my win! I had a really good start but couldn’t close the gap to Ricardo Russo in the beginning of the race. Later on, I found a real fast and good race rhythm and was able to catch up with Russo. Many thanks to my team because the Honda was once again perfect this weekend. The difference with championship leader Russo is down to just two points. I can’t wait to go to Aragon, our next race.”

Bastien Chesaux (STK600 race – DNF): “I’m really disappointed because after Monza and after the qualifications at the Misano World Circuit we knew a good result was possible here, but unfortunately the race was over after a few turns. Now we focus on Aragon. Hopefully I can show my true potential in Spain in three weeks. We know it is possible!”

EAB Ten Kate Junior Team rider Fabio Massei will start tomorrow’s FIM Cup Superstock 1000 race from ninth on the grid. The Italian couldn’t improve his time from yesterday during the second qualification at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, as the circuit is now officially called. On the other hand, Massei starts from the 'clean' side of the circuit and that is very important for the sprint to the first tight chicane.
