Andrea Cervellin scores three world championship points in Great Britain

20-08-2012

Andrea was riding in sixteenth position for a long time in the first moto but finally finished the race in eighteenth position. In the second moto he was riding inside of the points again when he got cramp in his legs. The pain became so heavy that he was forced to retire from the race. Andrea was ill last week so we assume he wasn’t completely recovered yet. Nick Kouwenberg had to come back from a poor start in the first moto but scored no points with a 23rd position. In the second moto he was fighting for his position when he went off the track and got stuck in a trackside banner. Nick had to go back to the pits and lost a lot of time so his chances of scoring points were gone.

The weekend started positively for the SKS Polned TM Factory Team because Andrea managed to qualify himself in fifteenth position. Nick was riding inside of the top twenty for a long time in the qualifying heat but lost a few positions in the second part of the race and finished the moto in 22nd position.

In the first moto it was Andrea who took the best start and he came out of the first lap in fifteenth position. He found his rhythm straight away and he managed to ride in sixteenth position for a long time. Just after the middle of the race he lost two positions and dropped back to eighteenth position in which he finished. With this position he scored three world championship points. Nick got a poor start and started the race just inside of the top thirty. He started a charge back through the field and in the middle of the race he had worked himself up to 25th position. Nick kept the pace as high as he could and managed to cross the finish line in 23rd position.

In the second moto Andrea started around twentieth position and managed to hold on to this position in the first couple of laps. Just before the middle of the race he found his rhythm and worked himself up to eighteenth position. A few laps later disaster struck the young Italian because he got cramp in his legs. Andrea tried to ride but when the pain became more worse he was forced to retire from the race. Nick took a better start in the second moto and was fighting around 25th position in the first few laps. Unfortunately he ran off the track when he was battling for a position and got stuck in a trackside banner. Nick had to go back to the pits and lost a lot of time so his chances of scoring points were gone. To gain more race rhythm after his injury he decided to stay on the track. Finally he was classified in 29th position.
Overall Andrea finished in 21st position and Nick ended the day in 33rd position. After thirteen rounds Andrea sits in 29th position in the championship standings. In two weeks time the series continues at Lierop in Holland.
