Fabio Massei has scored a seventh place in today’s penultimate Superstock 1000 FIM Cup race of 2015 at Jerez de la Frontera. Like the practice days before, it was hot and sunny in the south of Spain with air temperatures above thirty degrees and track temperatures even in the mid-fifties. The EAB Racing Team rider had a perfect start and was in third after a hectic first lap. But after a couple of laps Massei had some difficulties and couldn’t hold his pace and had to be satisfied with a seventh place.
Massei had this morning the same start as yesterday. Like in the third free practice he didn’t set a time in the warming-up because of technical issues on his EAB Racing Team Ducati 1199 Panigale R. But Massei is called The Fighter for a reason as the Italian rider showed in yesterday’s qualification session (fifth) and in today’s Superstock 1000 FIM Cup race at Jerez.
Fabio Massei: “The first two or three laps were very good, but from that moment I got some problems. It was very hard to stop the bike in the slow corners and it was hard to hold my line in the fast ones. As I also lost some power in the acceleration, I changed my riding style a bit, but also that didn’t help me. It’s a real shame as a good result was possible today. My focus is now on Magny-Cours. I want to fight for the podium places in France.”
Tony Covena ended the morning warming-up in twenty-first place and had a better feeling with his EAB Racing Team Ducati 1199 Panigale R for the first time in Jerez. Although he had to start from twenty-eighth on the grid. After a promising race he ended in twenty-first place, not that far from the top-15. Covena: “It was indeed a hard weekend with some problems on Friday and Saturday. Luckily the mechanics solved the problems this morning and I was able to ride the bike more on a way I want. The race was better but not good. Hopefully we can end the season in high at Magny-Cours.”
